StarTran Realtime Theory
For a Future in Court Reporting...From Day One

LEARN STARTRAN AT HOME!

Bright, mature individuals who wish to become court reporters, steno transcriptionists, or captioners, if there is no court reporting school in your area or you just want to begin your reporting studies on a part-time basis, NCRA-approved StarTran Realtime Theory can help you realize your dream! If you are:

self-disciplined,
in good health,
have strong English skills,
reading comprehension, and
a high school diploma,

there is no reason why you can't learn the fundamentals of court reporting machine shorthand at home on your own time. The course will take five to ten months with three to four hours of practice a day. Once you finish the comprehensive StarTran program, you can then transfer to the court reporting school, distance learning or at-home court reporting program of your choice to continue your academic and speedbuilding education.

To augment your self-study and stay connected to your professional goal, StarTran highly recommends that court reporting students find a compatible court reporter to be a mentor.  There are many successful court and depo reporters who are enthusiastic about helping to train the next generation of reporters.  Check the Mentor Program at the National Court Reporters Association for a mentor just right for you..

When you purchase the StarTran self-study course, you aren't alone.  There is much helpful information on the StarTran Student Resources page, including preview vocabulary for every lesson and a Question-and-Answer section. There are detailed instructions on getting started with GlobalCAT software and downloading Computer Tutor Lessons, as well as other handy downloads.  From Day One, you may call or email at any time with any questions or problems you may have and get your answers quickly and directly from the author of StarTran Realtime Theory.

After or towards the end of theory check the StarTran FAQs & Links page for schools and speedbuilding programs and sites and where to go to prepare for national and state certification tests in the Schools and Speedbuilding sections. More and more schools today are adding distance learning components to their court reporting programs. But whether you transfer to a resident school, online program, or speedbuilding site, with StarTran Theory under your belt, you will be able to write anything in English at approximately 60-90 wpm and are fully prepared as a realtime writer to pursue higher speeds and finish your court reporting studies with confidence! StarTran is the only NCRA-approved theory that is able to make this claim.
